The whistling vessels originated in Peru, thousands
of years ago. They're made out of clay and are fired into pottery. They have two chambers
that are connected and there is a stem to blow into. The pitch of each vessel is fixed.
They are constructed in sets of 6 to 8 pieces and are permanently tuned so that the slight
differences in pitch between each vessel result in dramatic difference tones and
overtones. When a group of people starts blowing them all at the same time you are almost
immediately transported into a positive altered state. The sound can then be used as a
carrier to accomplish healing, balancing, protection, information gathering or whatever
else is desired. These intentions are magnified by the powerful resonances of the vessels.
Clues to the cause of the effect of the sound on the brain may be found at Binaural Beats and the Physiology of the Brain
Jim Albani and I have produced a high quality recording of the vessels. It is available in CD or cassette format and will give you an excellent representation of the effect of these unusual sounds. Many people, both alone and in groups have reported excellent results from using this tape.
Side A is 25 minutes of the vessels alone. Side B has the vessels plus a shamanic drum accompaniment using the sequence of the 64 hexagrams of the Chinese I-Ching as a rhythmic pattern. These divinatory patterns have correspondences with the coding of our DNA as well as being an inclusive matrix for mapping human activity, both personal and global.
